It seems like an odd match: Salvador Dali and Walt Disney, collaborating on a surreal, short animated film. The Destino project was almost finished when in 1945 Disney's studio ran into financial trouble and put the unfinished film on the shelf.
But, Walt Disney always regretted the decision. And Disney's nephew Roy Disney, who now heads the company's animation division, decided to revive the project.
So now, the movie Destino premiered on June 2, 2003 at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in Annecy, France. The six-minute short follows the love story of Chronos and the ill-fated love he has for a mortal female. The story continues as the female dances through surreal scenery inspired by Dalí's paintings. There is no dialogue, but the sound track features a song by the Mexican composer Armando Dominguez.
